Travel to the 4th International Conference on Annexins

September 30 – October 4, 2007

Avalon, Catalina Island, California

Note: Catalina Island, as the name suggests, cannot be reached by car/taxi.  Ferry service (1–1.5 hours) is the most economical way (~$60 roundtrip), a chartered chopper (15 minutes) will run you upwards of $160.  At your own risk: Swimming the 20+ miles takes from 10 hours upwards

Ferries leave from various ports in the greater Los Angeles area to Avalon (Catalina Island), but some ports only have a few ferries per week in fall, others have only one ferry a day, so planning ahead is important.  The fall schedules are out!

From LAX (Los Angeles International Airport):

Marina Del Rey (5 miles from LAX) - Location - Schedule (on Sundays: 2 daily trips to Avalon)

San Pedro (20 miles from LAX) - Location - Schedule (make sure you check the Sep 4 – October 22 Schedule!)

Long Beach Downtown Landing (22 miles from LAX) - Location - Schedule (make sure you check the Sep 4 – October 22 Schedule!)

Long Beach Queen Mary (22 miles from LAX) - Location - Schedule (make sure you check the Sep 4 – October 22 Schedule!)

From SNA (a.k.a. Orange County, or, far more embarrassingly, John Wayne Airport):

Newport Beach (10 miles from SNA) - Location - Schedule (one roundtrip daily: 9 am to Avalon, 4:30 pm back to Newport Beach)

Dana Point (24 miles from SNA) - Location - Schedule  (make sure you check the Sep 4 – October 22 Schedule!)

There are also package deals for shuttles to&from most of the local airports WITH roundtrip ferry at http://www.karmel.com/catalina.html

Registration will open at 4pm on Sunday, 30 September 2007 at the Catalina Canyon Resort (Google Map, Google Earth).

The conference will begin with dinner at 6pm on 30 September 2007.

The conference ends after breakfast on 4 October 2007.

Things to do on Catalina (special note: The Blues Festival (late September) and The 20th Annual Jazz Trax Festival (Oct 4-7))

Looks like Volker & Annette missed the last ferry.
